*Yes, this is another newsletter on security. Why? Because cybercrime is on the rise and our own staff and students are increasingly becoming victims of it. But surely security is IT's problem, not yours? Unfortunately we can only protect you up to a point, the rest is your responsibility.

So even if you're tired of hearing about phishing and ransomware, make sure you know how to recognise and avoid them. Rather be safe and paranoid than have an empty bank account and no identity.

*Over the past 24 hours the topic of this newsletter took on another meaning. SInce Tuesday night Cape Town and surrounds have been ravaged by rain and strong wind as a massive storm hit. But while we were trying to keep dry, the residents of Knysna were fleeing their homes as fires tore through the town. If you want to help those affected by these disasters, here are some ideas.
