RULES, LAWS AND GUIDELINES

With multiple data breaches occurring world-wide over the past year, the importance of protecting data has become crucial. Apart from securing and storing your work and personal information, you also need to be aware of the various laws coming into effect regarding the sharing of data. In today's newsletter we address one of these.

Where do you store your data? Do you trust cloud storage, such as OneDrive, DropBox or Google Drive or do you prefer to keep it within reach on an external hard drive. Do let us know at bitsbytes@sun.ac.za.

   
 
GDPR: PROTECTING YOUR DATA

The international law of data protection has changed and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on the 25 May 2018. There's a great deal of information available on GDPR, but here's a summary.

STRICTER RULES FOR VPN
Many of our staff and students use FortiClient to obtain VPN access to the Stellenbosch University network when they are not on campus. Please take note that there is a new process to apply for the VPN service if you are a new user.
