Policy DocumentsA Strategic Task Group for Community Interaction was convened by the Rector of Stellenbosch University in 2003. This task group was chaired by Prof Julian Smith, Vice Rector (Community Interaction and Personnel). The task group developed a policy and implementation plan for one of the core functions of the university previously known as 'community service'. The task group recommended that preference would be given to the term ‘community interaction’ to give expression to the reciprocal relationship between communities and the university. The document, "Community Interaction: Report of the Strategic Task Group” is the product of more than a year's work by the task group. The methodology followed, included amongst others the participation and input of all stakeholders internal and external to the institution. The report and the policy were approved by the University Council on 28 June 2004. View the Executive Summary of the Report and the Community Interaction Policy document. The policy was reviewed in 2009.
